Oh, yeah…. Festival time is here!
Bring it on. And what better way to start? Harbourlife is the epitome of Sydney summer festivals - brought to us by the same team behind Listen Out and Field Day. It’s a day that focuses on classic house music to kick of the summer festival season.
On Saturday Lee Foss, Kygo, and a host of other DJs played to a sun-soaked crowd with Sydney Harbour as their backdrop. With the iconic location and perfect weather, the festival pulled a sold-out crowd and festivalgoers did not leave disappointed. If you missed out, here’s a recap:
Future Classic DJs kicked off the festival with a set to get everyone warmed up. Miguel Campbell and Mark Farina followed before American DJ Lee Foss took to the stage. Renowned for his mixes of 90s hip hop and 80s electro, Lee Foss didn’t disappoint the crowds that were swarming by the late afternoon. Not only was the dance floor packed out, people in boats of all shapes and sizes had parked themselves as close to the action as possible.
Considering he’s only 20 years young, Thomas Jack killed his afternoon set. He’s renowned for combining house with smooth jazz sounds and managed to mix in a bit of everything for his Harbourlife appearance. The chilled beats of his Atlas Hands remix was the perfect soundtrack to soak up the amazing surroundings of Mrs Macquarie’s Point. Kelis was mixed in with some epic saxophone solos and The Land Down Under even made it into the set.
Norwegian DJ Kygo came to the stage for his 7.00pm set, playing his first gig in Australia. He flawlessly mixed tunes from ZHU, Gnarles Barkley, Chet Faker and Macklemore. A remix of the Marvin Gaye classic Sexual Healing was the perfect anthem for the crowd to belt out as the sun slowly set. Kygo wrapped things up with his remix of Often from The Weekend as bubble machines pumped waves of bubbles over the crowd.
As night fell,, Dusky’s deep house set kept the crowd going. They kicked it off with Inta and didn’t fail to show the crowds what deep house is all about. A DJ set from Classixx wrapped up the night with their slightly more tehno sounds a perfect way to end the festival on a high. As music lovers dragged their tired legs from the iconic harbourside venue, its fair to say that Harbourlife delivered another epic festival.
If you missed out this year make sure you get in early next year - this is a must-do festival for any Sydneysider or nearby resident!
